Alan Rickman: Forever in Our Hearts

Alan Rickman was a well known English actor and director, mainly known for his role as Professor Severus Snape. His career started in college at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. After graduating, he was given some minor parts, his break was not until 1985 in Christopher Hampton’s adaptation of Les Liaisons Dangereuses. His role was Vicomte de Valmont. As his career moved forward, his style of acting stayed constant, being that Rickman’s parts usually were the villain or an unsympathetic character. In 2015, Rickman suffered from a minor stroke, which led to his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, which was not publicized. He became terminally ill, eventually leading to his death. On January 14, 2016 Rickman passed away in a London hospital, surrounded by his closed friends and family. Right away, his co-stars started to express their pain of losing a friend. The most known probably coming from Daniel Radcliffe:

“People create perceptions of actor based on the parts they played so it might surprise some people to learn that contrary to some of the sterner(or downright scary) characters he played, Alan was extremely kind, generous, self-deprecating, and funny. And certain things obviously became even funnier when delivered in his unmistakable double-bass.” (Taken from Radcliffe’s tribute to Rickman).

Soon after the announcement of his death, fans started making a memorial at the King’s Cross Station in London at Platform 9¾. Also, fans visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter are raising their wands in his honor. One left a single lily outside of the Potions classroom. Alan Rickman will live on in his characters, co-stars, and fans. Always.
