A Winter's Eve

The Lincoln High School and Franklin Middle School Choirs performed their concert, “A Winter’s Eve,” in the LHS auditorium on December 9th and 11th. The Monday concert was packed. The auditorium was full and the stage had 260 choir students on it at one point. The choirs sang beautifully as they were directed by Darcy Reese and accompanied by Kristi LaSalle on the piano.

Their song list consisted of traditional Christmas songs such as “O Holy Night” and “Mary, Did You Know,” but also added in a mix of unique songs such as “Viva la Musica” and “Banethandaza,” a traditional South African folk song.

Reese was able to showcase the LHS and FMS Choirs as a whole and also showcase her smaller groups. The Vocal Inferno group, for example, sang two songs– “Run to You”, and “Take Me Home.” Reese spoke to the audience saying that she had trouble narrowing this group down to a handful of students because they all were so talented.

Towards the end of the concert, the audience was able to join the choirs in singing “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” and “Angels We Have Heard On High.”

The LHS Choir has some important dates coming up. Concert Choir and Vocal Inferno will be performing at Digi-Key on December 20th and heading down to Minneapolis to sing at St Mary’s Basilica on January 6th and at St. Joan of Arc Church on January 7th. They also have an amazing opportunity coming this June. They will be traveling to California to record their own CD at Skywalker Ranch on June 7th-9th. Needless to say, they’re a busy group.

The LHS and FMS choirs had a wonderful performance, showing how hard they work in and out of school. To end the night, Reese gave a short message: “Pray for peace and stop watching the news”: two great pieces of advice for this holiday season.
