This Month in Girls Basketball

On January 5th, girls basketball traveled to Bemidji. They claim a victory, with the help of sophomore Kylea Praska, scoring 26 points and senior Meleah Biermaier, scoring 20. Junior varsity lost, 27-49 and the freshmen girls won, 48-31.

On January 8th, varsity and junior varsity girls basketball traveled to Warroad to crush the Warriors, 63-23. Sophomore Kylea Praska took 20 points, and senior Jenna Tadych scored 12. Junior varsity won a big, 36-16.

On January 9th, the freshmen girls basketball team made their way to Newfolden, winning two out of their three games. Against Roseau, the girls lost by four, 21-25. The freshmen took a win, 44-16 against BGMR and they ended their day winning against the Newfolden Freeze, 30-20.

On January 11th, girls basketball played the Roseau Rams for the second time this season. After losing to them the first time, the Prowlers knew that they needed to get their “head in the game”. The freshmen did just that, winning 48-25. JV couldn’t pull-through, losing 26-50. At the half of varsity, the Prowlers were up, 44-37. Their largest lead was in the second half with a gap of 16 points. The girls ended up winning, 78-65! Leading scorers included senior Meleah with an oustanding 28 points, sophomore Kylea Praska with 21, and sophomore T

ihana Nicholson, scoring 14.

On January 15th, the Prowlers took another win at home, 61-26, against the Hibbing Bluejackets! The game was a steal from the start, with a score of 39-14 at halftime. Both teams had trouble at the free-throw line: the Prowlers shot 50% and the Blue Jackets with 25% in the first half. Leading scorers include senior Jenna Tadych with 18 points, sophomore Kylea Praska with 15, and senior Meleah Biermaier, scoring 11. JV lost to Hibbing, 33-15, and the freshmen team won, 56-27.

On January 16th, senior guard Meleah Biermaier started the game against Grand Rapids off right, scoring a layup right off the tip from sophomore, Tiahna Nicholson. The Thunderhawks led by two at the end of the first half after Nicholson scored at the buzzer. The physical game ended 65-47, with the Prowlers winning! Leading scorers were sophomore Kylea Praska with 21 points (12 in free throws), senior Meleah Biermaier scoring 19 points, sophomore Tihana Nicholson with 16, and senior Jenna Tadych scoring 14. Grand Rapids ended the game with a total of 21 fouls. JV lost against Grand Rapids, 47-30, and freshmen won, 59-46.

On January 18th, the freshmen team headed to BGMR and got a big win, 51-22.

Girls varsity traveled to EGF, on January 19th, and were up by 21 by the end of the half, 34-13. The girls ended up crushing the Green Wave, 53-35. Sophomore Kylea Praska led the scoreboard with 20 points and senior Kelsey Kainz followed with 14 points. JV lost, 34-43, and 9th grade won big, 50-29.

Girls basketball takes home two wins at their overnighter down in the cities. On January 22nd, varsity won big against Minneapolis Washburn, 71-43, an obvious sweep from the start, with the scoreboard at 43-29 at halftime. On January 23rd, the girls had an early start to their day, and a victorious one, leading 36-12 at halftime, and finishing with 71-42 against Richfield. Junior varsity went 1-1 over the weekend, losing to Washburn, 13-26, and winning against Richfield, 30-19.

On January 28th, girls basketball played at home against Detroit Lakes. At the half, the Prowlers were down by nine, 24-33. With only a few minutes to go, the two teams were tied, 44-44. The intense game ended with the Prowlers playing great defence, not allowing the Lakers to score in the last minute and a half. The Lakers fouled five times within the last minute, but the Prowlers held on once again, winning 51-46. Sophomore Kylea Praska led the scoreboard with 17 points, senior Meleah Biermaier followed, with 14, and senior Jenna Tadych contributed 13. Junior varsity lost to the Lakers, 21-30 and freshman won, 51-28.
