Soccer Sign-Ups
It’s getting closer and closer to spring and that means sign-ups for spring sports. Soccer in TRF isn’t a school sport but it’s no different. This year we have a new league president and signups are online at thiefriversoccer.org. If you go to the website and make an account you can sign up. Everyone from last year as well as people who have never played before are encouraged to sign up. The age cap is 18, so every grade should be able to participate. For the past few years we’ve had a friendly competitive league, along with several other towns. This means we go to other towns and they come here for ‘friendly’ matches. What makes the matches friendly is that they don’t go toward any overall record, and we don’t have any big tournament to determine a league winner or anything. There are tournaments that we can sign up for near the end of the year but that all depends on our number of players. Since a lot of towns like us have been facing smaller numbers each year, this works out pretty well, and makes for competitive soccer league that’s easy to join in at any age. Soccer is a perfect sport for athletes in winter sports, as a way of cross training and keeping in shape during the off-season. However you don’t need to be in another sport to join. Hopefully the community will be able to regain some of our fervor we used to have for soccer, and bring it back to what it used to be. The organization already means a lot for so many people, let’s keep it up!
