Update on the Norskies Games

If you haven't been keeping up with Norskie hockey games, this article is for you. Included are multiple game recaps with highlights from each game.

If you don’t know who the Norskies are, they are the new Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL) team in town. There are five other SIJHL teams in the Minnesota and Northwestern Ontario region: Dryden Ice Dogs, Thunder Bay North Stars, English River Miners, Minnesota Iron Rangers, and the Fort Frances Lakers.

There are three Lincoln High School alumni that currently play for the Norskies: Keaton Huot, Blair Lindholm, and Michael Johnson.

On October 28th, the Norskies played their first home game at the Ralph Engelstad arena against the English River Miners, resulting in a 4-7 loss.

As for a highlight from the game, the Miners did something that you should never do, they messed with the Norskies’ goalie, resulting in an exchange of shoves between Keaton Huot and a Miners player.

Although the Norskies won only one game out of three against the English River Miners, they are a brand new team, and they have already achieved a lot. A note to competitors- Norskie Nation is powerful, and we will try our hardest to become victorious.

On the 4th and 5th of November, the Norskies faced the Thunder Bay North Stars.

The first game resulted in a 4-2 Norskie loss. Peter Grytdahl was disqualified from the game for spearing. Spearing is an illegal check in which a player jabs an opponent with the end of the stick blade or the top end of the stick. Both Norskie goals were scored by forward Michael Johnson.

The second game resulted in a 3-4 Norskie shootout loss. Blair Lindholm was disqualified from the game for a butt ending incident. Butt ending is an action involving a player using the top of their stick shaft, called the butt-end of the stick, to deal a quick blow to an opposing player. during the first period. The Norskies’ goals were scored by Keaton Huot, Alec Daman, and Logan Jackson.

On November 16th the Norskies faced in-state rival Minnesota Iron Rangers resulting in a 5-3 win for the Norskies.

The following Tuesday, on the 22nd, the Norskies faced the Iron Rangers again winning, this time with a score of 6-4.

On the 26th of November four Norskies landed themselves in the penalty box. Three were given penalties for roughing, an example of roughing would be, a player striking another opponent, and one player serving a penalty that was given to the goalie. The game was against the Fort Frances Lakers which resulted in a 3-1 Norskie loss.
